About the HBF customer satisfaction survey
The National New Homes Customer Satisfaction Survey helps homebuyers see how different developers are performing. It compares developers across five important areas of the home-buying experience to help customers make a more informed choice.
The survey is run by the Home Builders Federation (HBF) and is the longest-running independent measure of customer satisfaction with new build homes.
If you buy a new-build home you will receive the survey twice: eight weeks after you move in, and again nine months after completion.

What are the five survey questions?
- Would you recommend your builder to a friend?
- How satisfied are you with the build quality (of your new home)?
- How satisfied are you with the service provided by your builder during the buying process?
- How satisfied are you with the standard of finish (of your new home)?
- How satisfied are you with the service provided by your builder since you moved in?
How to read the survey results
The arrows shown next to each survey question indicate whether the developer’s score has improved ↑, declined ↓, or stayed the same →, since the last results were published.
Eight-week survey scores are published quarterly, using 12-month rolling data, approximately four weeks after each reporting period closes.
Results are not displayed for developers who do not have an active registration on the Register of Developers; do not take part in the National New Homes Customer Satisfaction Survey; have not received 20 or more responses to the survey; or have not consented to have their results displayed.
